At the meeting, all applications will be reviewed to determine if the applicants qualify to renew or become a Tennessee notary public. Most counties require applications to arrive 15-20 days before the scheduled meeting to be reviewed. Hence, Tennessee renewal and initial commissioning can takes months if your application is not submitted prior to the commission meeting. Please submit your notary application for renewal as quickly as possible to ensure your application arrives to NPU in time for us to review it and submit it to the county within the required period prior to the meeting. Per county: Davidson: Meetings are only held in January, March, May, July, September and November, on the first Tuesday of the month. To be reviewed, the application must arrive 20 days before the meeting. For instance, if you want your application to be reviewed at the January meeting, your application must arrive within the first two weeks in December. Hamilton: Meetings are usually held twice a month (the beginning and the end), but in November and December they are only held once a month. The application must arrive 20 days before the meeting date. Knox: The meetings are held once a month. The application must arrive before the 15th of the month. Shelby: Meetings are usually held twice a month (the beginning and the end), but in November and December they are only held once a month. The application must arrive 20 days before the meeting date. Rutherford: Meetings are held once a month, except for December when there are no meetings. Most other counties hold meetings once a month and require the application to arrive 15-20 days before the meeting to be considered.
